Because I Care

I am posting another PSA (like my Wendy's and Restoration Hardware PSAs) for my dear readers. Why? Because I care sisters!

ATTENTION:

If your wedding ring looks anything like this

OR this

You are at risk for developing a rash on your ring finger! I have now come in contact with at least 5 cases of this mysterious "wedding band rash". Most women think it is just a personal reaction to the rings or they may be allergic to the metal. This is what I thought when my rash appeared. Many cases have become so severe that the poor women were forced to remove their rings! I want to take the time to inform you that if you or anyone you know is suffering from the wedding band rash...there is a cure! Unfortunately, the diagnosis is not pretty. The rash is a fungus! Do not deceive yourself and think that taking it off at night or putting moisturizer will help. It will not. The rash will persist. The cause is moisture that gets trapped in the little grooves under your ring due to the pave setting. Normal activities such as washing your hands or washing dishes lets the moisture in.

If you or a loved one has this rash, RUN don't WALK to the nearest dermo and request a prescription for Nystatin and Triamcinolone Acetonide. It will completely clear the irritation in a few days. After the rash is gone, if your hands are going to be submerged in water, take your rings off. Do not shower or wash dishes in your rings and if you wash your hands, make sure to dry them thoroughly (under your ring).

Please spread the word to anyone you know who has this "rash". '

Over and out.

Babywise, Blowouts & Buntings

My baby is officially 2 months old tomorrow! I can't believe it. I love him more each day. I am trying to savor each day with him. I know it will pass so quickly. I find myself getting emotional because "He will never be 6/7/8 weeks old again..." I'm sure with subsequent children you don't have the time to be so sentimental. But right now, my days are pretty much entirely focused on taking care of him and loving him and I absolutely love it! He is a precious little man.

All the gushyness aside, I can't say enough about how much I love the Babywise routine! Some of my friends recommended it to me and I read it before I had Parks. I liked the idea from the start. Babywise is a book that lays out a "flexible routine" for life with an infant. Basically it is a 2-3 hour routine that goes like this: eat, awake, nap, repeat for the entire day. The whole purpose of the routine is to assist the infant in organizing their sleep and wake times resulting in early and consistent nighttime sleep. I can tell you, it works! Parks has been sleeping 7-8 hours at night for two weeks now! I put him down around 10 and then he wakes at 6 to eat, and often falls back asleep until 8! Not too bad for a wee one. Another major accomplishment we had last week was napping in the crib! My mom helped me get started with this one. Before I was putting him down, I was basically letting him decide when he wanted to nap, which resulted in an overly tired, cranky baby who was constantly being carried around. This meant that by the end of the day I was completely exhausted from carrying around a 10 pound baby all day long. I always intended to put him in his crib to nap but in the early days I didn't feel good about letting him "cry it out" at 2, 3, 4 weeks old. When I was in VB my mom observed my worn down state and said, "It's TIME" and I agreed! I've been putting him down for naps now and he loves it! He is happy and playful when he is awake and he gets great daytime rest and has actually been sleeping better at night since we began the regular naps. Not to mention my life is transformed! I can count on his naptimes and get work done when he sleeps.

Now, on to subject #2 blowouts! Luckily we haven't had that many (and never in public, yet)....but when he blows...he BLOWS! It's like he stores up for a week and then lets it all out. It's both disgusting and hilarious at the same time. I often find myself laughing and gagging at the same time while dealing with the aftermath of his explosions. I will spare you a picture of what I'm talking about but I assure you there have been times when we have had to document that sheer magnitude of what this child can do! It's really quite remarkable!

Today was an "Ice Day" in Cville which meant that Jackson got to stay home with us. There was a small amount of snow outside so I insisted that we put Parks in his bunting and take him outside for pictures of "Baby's First Snow". Can you tell we didn't have much to do? I'm not sure what he thought of it, but I sure had fun.

Blonde & Beckham

***UPDATE***
I am LOVING the hair feedback, keep it coming! I also wanted to clarify that hubs was being totally sweet during this whole conversation and was NOT making me feel like I was house frau who needed to look like Posh Spice :) I just know I'm going to get some "anonymous" comment about how horrible it is that I would "submit" and "respect" my husbands request that I get a posh haircut. SO, I don't want to hear it blog-haters!

*************************

Hello blogosphere!

Prepare yourself for a random post. Last night I watched Miss America. I watch it every year and this year I knew two contestants. Miss New York is a girl that I used to do some musical theater with growing up and we were also in a teen pageant together in Louisiana, she also went to UVA. Miss Indiana (who won Miss America) was also in that same teen pageant. She won that pageant too and I was 2nd runner up. Coolio.

So, Jackson watched the pageant with me and it was so funny to hear his opinion on the girls and their dresses and hairstyles etc. As we were watching Jackson starts mentioning that he really likes some of the girls hairstyles. I agreed with him that they were really cute and kept watching. Jackson continues to discuss the hairstyles and then asks how much a hair cut like that would cost. I said around $50. He volunteers to watch Parks on Monday so I can go get a haircut. At this point I got the hint loud and clear that my husband thinks I need a haircut! I guess all the ponytails and messy buns have taken their toll on my sweet hubby.

THEN...he goes on to ask about highlights!! I am thinking woah woah woah I just dyed my hair BROWN to be more ECONOMICAL! I am a stinking chameleon! It's brown, blonde, brown, blonde. Well the truth has finally come out...hubs prefers me BLONDE! Gasp! And you know me, the submissive wife that I am, if the hubs likes it blonde...I will respect his wishes :) Because Jackson and I are both visual, he does a google search of a certain someone and proceeds to tell me he thinks this hairstyle is way hot...

INDEED...if we all could look like Posh Spice right?

Needless to say, we might be crunching some numbers in our budget to afford a Posh Spice hair do for the new mommy!

Most of you have seen me through blonde stages and brunette stages. I need your opinion and please be honest. Do YOU prefer me with blonde or brown hair??

Uh Oh!

THIS is what happened when I put his UVA sweatshirt on for the first time tonight...

To his father's delight, I think Parks might be a 'heel at heart, although I have not given up hope :)

5.5 Weeks!

I can't believe Parks is already over a month old! Time flies. Last week we went to his doctor for a one month checkup. He is doing great. He was 7 pounds 14 ounces when he was born and last week at 4 weeks he was 9 pounds 10 ounces! He was in the 75th percentile for height and the 50th percentile for weight. I'm sure he's at least 10 pounds by now. He is getting a double chin and his little thighs are filling out...it's so cute! He is definitely more awake now. He sleeps great at night and is very alert for a majority of the day. I'm still getting up for one early morning feeding, usually around 4 am. So as far as sleep goes, I'm doing ok.

As a first time mom, I am obsessed with taking pictures of Parks. Here are some pictures of our days at home. Please notice his combover hairstyle after I bathe him. I love to brush his hair!

Baby's First Christmas

Here are some pics of our Andrews Family Christmas! We had a great time and Parks loved meeting his Uncles and Aunt! There was some debate as to whether little Parks will be raised a Wahoo, a War Eagle, or a Tarheel....I think the Tarheels won!
