4 Month Check-Up

For those of you just DYING to know...here are the details of Parks' 4 month check up. He is "thriving" in the words of his doctor. He weighs a hefty 16 pounds exactly and is 25.5 inches tall. Still in the 75th percentile for weight, but 60th for height and 80th for head circumference. The doctor goes, "So who has the big head in the family??" Bless his heart, no wonder he has been behind his peers in steady head control...he has more to support!

He is doing awesome and meeting all his milestones. The doctor said he is a very healthy little boy! I am so excited to be seeing Dr. Synders here because he was my pediatrician growing up, along with my siblings. He is also totally on board with my alternative vaccination schedule which was really important to me. I'm going to post more about that later, I'd love to share with the blogosphere what I've learned regarding vaccinations.

Stay tuned for more pictures of my "thriving" four month old!

Such a tease

Did anyone else think the season finale of Jon and Kate Plus 8 was a total tease??? The commercials they were showing for the finale made it seem like Jon and Kate were on brink of divorce or something. It was so dramatic! Turns out there really isn't any drama at all. Oh, the marketing ploys of TLC...I wonder how many other people were suckered into watching last night because of those commercials.

Marriage Under Attack

This post is a rant. I am so SICK of the assault on marriage in our culture. It is a disgrace. I've been watching a lot of ABC programming lately and I have seen two separate attacks on marriage this week. The first was on Good Morning America and they were talking about this disgusting website called "Ashley Madison" that is specifically for married people looking to cheat! It is like eHarmony for married people looking to have an affair. Can you believe this? I was appalled. They interviewed the CEO and he was saying that most American married people would cheat if they could be guaranteed there would be no repercussions. My blood was boiling over this website and hearing this man talk about it.

Oprah was the next offender...suprise, suprise! Oprah spews out such a load of CRAP everyday and Americans are stupid enough to listen to it and believe it. Can you tell I'm a little angry about this? It bothers me so much that people act like Oprah is God. She is not and one day everyone will know that. So here's what happened, the brilliant Jenny McCarthy was being interviewed and of course she is talking about her relationship with Jim Carrey. She was basically bragging about how she didn't have to be married to have a good relationship. Then she comes up with this stupid analogy. She says, "Marriage should be like a drivers license, every four years you should get to renew it or let it expire...bahahaha!". Oprah thinks that is the best idea ever and says, "Yes, as humans we are always evolving and marriage should evolve too!".

Marriage should not evolve people! Thomas Jefferson said, "On matters of style, swim with the current, on matters of principle, stand like a rock." I could not agree more. Marriage is a matter of principle. It is literally the foundation of our society, it is the foundation of the family. It is so important that I shudder to think about what the world would be like without strong marriages. Marriage is something that Satan desperately wants to destroy. As believers we need to stand up for marriage and not tolerate these assaults. Being aware that marriage is under attack is half the battle. It is easy to let our culture's lies seep into our brain and become part of our belief system without us even realizing it.

Marriage is not easy, it is hard work. But marriage is not a drivers license that you get to renew or let expire, it is a life long commitment. When it comes to marriage, turn off Oprah and open the Word of God. Only Christ can truly sustain a marriage through life's ups and downs and give you the strength to "renew" every year.

Life at the Beach

I know y'all were sick of looking at that Elvira post so I am giving you something else to look at, although I am sorry to say it will not include pictures. Things are going great here in VB. Jackson is really enjoying his job and I am getting used to living here again. Parks is being thoroughly spoiled by his grandparents, aunts and uncles. The transition has been very smooth and I am very thankful for that. We are searching for a church home here and excited about what God has in store for us.

Random updates on Parks:
Parks continues to grow! He hasn't been weighed at the doctors in almost a month but I think he is about 17lbs based on me stepping on the scale with him. He's 3.5 months and doing great. He's still nursing exclusively. He is really changing and has become much more vocal. He has also turned into quite a little drama king. When he wants something, man he lets you know it! His whimpers have become full on wails. I'm guessing he will start crawling around 5 months, he is very motivated to move and is hardly ever still. He has been sleeping 11 hours every night for about 3 weeks now, thank you Lord!

I will try to pull off something more coherent over the weekend!

"...a little Elvira..."

Several months ago I had an interesting hair appointment. I was about 8 months pregnant and I was in need of some color and a haircut. As most of you know, I dyed my hair back to brown last sumnmer to be more "low maintenance and economical". Like most pregnant women, I wanted to have good hair when the baby came. So I went to a nice hair salon in Cville and was excited to spend a couple hours being beautified.

I discussed my hair needs with my stylist (who by the way, I had never met or been to before). I told him that I was in the process of getting back to my natural color and I needed to do an all-over semi-permanent color. He looks at me and goes "So, you want to give it some more color?". I said, "Well, no I want to get it back to my natural color." He says, "Well, I'm going to have to put some red or something in the color because your natural color is...a little Elvira!". Hold up, did Mr. Hair Stylist just say my hair looked like Elvira?? Oh yes he did. Note to all hairstylists: NEVER TELL A WOMAN SHE LOOKS LIKE ELVIRA...ESPECIALLY NOT AN 8 MONTH PREGNANT WOMAN!!

It only gets worse, he then proceeded to explain his comment. He tells me I have very fair skin and ashy brown hair, thus producing the Elvira effect. I'm the first to admit, I think my hair is more flattering in a lighter shade, but to compare me to Elvira??? I'm not so sure. Say it isn't so blogosphere!!!

You be the judge:
ELVIRA, "Mistress of the Dark"

Mallory, "Mistress of the Domestic"
